Water Heater in West Hollywood

During the June 5th service call in West Hollywood, our technician inspected the water heater supply and drain system, which showed clear signs of age and wear. The copper and galvanized steel supply lines exhibited significant corrosion with visible green and blue patina, while heavy mineral deposits and scale buildup had accumulated on the upper copper line. Rust staining was evident on galvanized components throughout the assembly, and the original pipe wrapping had deteriorated in multiple locations.

The inspection also revealed active water pooling on the concrete floor beneath the unit, indicating an active leak. Our technician addressed the immediate issue by installing fresh hose clamps on the upper copper line and repositioning the PVC flexible drain line with new clamp placement to redirect water flow and prevent further pooling. The ball valve with red handle and brass compression fittings were serviced, with clean connection points indicating proper reassembly.

The extensive corrosion and mineral deposits observed across the copper and galvanized steel components point to aging infrastructure that will benefit from ongoing maintenance. While today’s work stabilized the leak and optimized drain positioning, the condition of the supply lines suggests monitoring for future issues. The shutoff valve assembly remains functional with visible manufacturer markings intact, providing reliable isolation capability for future service needs.

This maintenance visit extended the operational life of the existing system and prevented water damage to surrounding areas. We recommend periodic inspection of the supply lines given their advanced oxidation state.
