Pipe Leak in West Hollywood
Our team responded to a pipe leak in a West Hollywood basement utility area on June 3, 2026. The inspection revealed an aging plumbing system with copper and PVC drain lines secured throughout with stainless steel band clamps and hose clamp connections. Moderate oxidation on the copper fittings and visible corrosion on the brass valve bodies indicated the system had been in service for several years. Water staining and minor cracks on the ceiling confirmed active moisture damage from the leak.
The existing configuration included multiple shut-off valves positioned at strategic points, black ABS drain piping, PVC elbows and tees, and a white PVC condensate drain line routed near the electrical panel. While the horizontal runs showed proper slope, the aged connections and corrosion at the valve bodies were identified as leak sources requiring attention.
Work focused on securing and reconfiguring the drain line system. New stainless steel band clamps and fasteners were installed throughout, with special attention to the shut-off valve connections where corrosion had compromised the seal. The piping layout was reorganized for improved routing along the ceiling joists, ensuring better support and easier future access. All connection points were tightened and verified for proper slope and drainage.
The system is now stabilized with reinforced connections and improved structural support. The new hardware is rated for long-term performance in basement conditions. We recommend monitoring the previously stained ceiling area and scheduling a follow-up inspection in six months to assess the integrity of the older brass valve bodies.
