Clogged Toilet in Santa Monica
On May 27, 2026, our team responded to a clogged toilet service call in Santa Monica. Upon arrival, we found an elongated bidet toilet seat with electronic controls installed over the affected fixture. Initial inspection revealed the root cause: significant corrosion and mineral buildup on the PVC drain pipe, coupled with green algae and mold growth inside the drain opening—clear signs of stagnant water and extended moisture exposure in the line.
To properly diagnose the extent of the blockage and assess subsurface piping integrity, we deployed ground-penetrating radar (GPR) equipment to map the underground drainage system. This diagnostic approach allowed us to pinpoint obstruction locations and evaluate the condition of buried sections without invasive excavation. The GPR scan, combined with visual inspection of the accessible drain coupling and piping, confirmed that mineral deposits and biological growth were restricting water flow.
Our team cleaned the drain opening and treated the affected sections to remove algae and mineral accumulation. The corroded metal coupling was evaluated for continued service. Ceramic tile flooring around the fixture remained intact throughout the work, with no damage to grout lines.
The toilet now drains properly. We recommend monitoring the system for future slow drainage, as the corrosion patterns suggest the piping may benefit from preventive maintenance or eventual replacement depending on the scope of subsurface deterioration revealed by the GPR survey. Our findings and recommendations have been documented for your records.
