Pipe Leak in Los Angeles
On June 24, 2026, our team inspected an under-sink drain assembly in Los Angeles showing signs of active water damage. The cabinet floor and interior walls displayed significant water staining and discoloration, with dark brown rust-colored accumulation visible in a collection bottle positioned beneath the drain—clear evidence of an ongoing leak.
Inspection revealed the P-trap assembly, constructed from black PVC pipe with white slip nuts, along with the drain tailpiece and supply line configuration. The brass shutoff valve and compression fitting at the supply line showed visible corrosion and mineral deposits, indicating prolonged exposure to moisture and mineral-laden water. The cabinet deterioration and oxidation on metal fittings confirmed the leak had been active for some time.
Our technician evaluated the P-trap connections and supply lines to isolate the source. The newer appearance of the white slip nuts suggested recent service work, though the surrounding moisture damage and corrosion on brass components indicated the underlying issue persisted. The collection bottle setup allowed for continued monitoring of water flow and quality during diagnosis.
The assessment confirmed an active leak requiring component evaluation and repair. Continued monitoring through the collection vessel provided data on leak rate and water condition. Further action on supply line sealing, valve replacement, or P-trap re-seating may be needed depending on the source identification and customer preference for repair scope.
