Boiler in Tujunga
On June 26, 2026, our team completed a boiler service call in Tujunga to evaluate a Wairco floor-mounted water heater (Model 4500 Furnace, Serial W20938). The unit is a vintage installation from the 1970s–1980s era, representing period-appropriate plumbing design with cast iron supply piping secured by copper strapping and galvanized steel water distribution lines throughout the system.
During the inspection, we assessed the overall condition of the equipment and its installation cavity. The heater nameplate showed significant rust and corrosion consistent with age and moisture exposure. Copper strapping exhibited oxidation and discoloration typical of older systems. The wooden framing displayed water staining and discoloration reflecting the installation’s decades of service. The mesh intake grille showed dust and debris accumulation. Galvanized piping displayed surface oxidation common to vintage installations.
The pilot control mechanism was found to be accessible and functional. All piping connections were properly secured with appropriate strapping methods, and the installation cavity was adequately framed with sufficient clearance for safe operation. No active leaks or fresh water damage were observed at the time of service.
This vintage boiler system remains operational, though its age and condition warrant monitoring. The cast iron and galvanized materials, while durable, are susceptible to continued oxidation. Regular inspection and maintenance will help extend the system’s service life and ensure safe, reliable operation.
