Clogged Drain in Van Nuys
On June 3, 2026, our team addressed a clogged drain affecting the kitchen sink in Van Nuys. Upon inspection, the under-sink assembly revealed significant mineral and sediment buildup trapped in the P-trap and drainage line—visible as tan and brown crusty debris that had accumulated over time. The Moen 1/2 HP garbage disposal unit and brass P-trap showed signs of oxidation consistent with mineral deposits restricting water flow.
We disassembled the P-trap and tailpiece assembly to access the blockage directly. The extracted debris, collected in a service bucket, confirmed heavy sediment accumulation was the root cause. The corroded brass components were cleaned thoroughly to restore proper drainage function. All connections—including the PVC and copper piping—were inspected and secured.
After reassembly, the system was flushed and tested to verify normal water flow and proper drainage. The stainless steel sink drained cleanly with no backup or slow drainage. The shut-off valve remained functional, and all fixtures returned to normal operation.
This type of mineral buildup is common in older plumbing systems and typically develops gradually. Regular drain maintenance can help prevent future clogs. If you notice slow drainage or backups in the future, professional drain cleaning can keep your system running smoothly. The kitchen sink is now fully functional with restored water flow.
