Pipe Leak in Sherman Oaks
During the June 10 service call in Sherman Oaks, our team inspected a multi-zone potable water distribution system showing signs of age and mineral buildup. The system featured copper supply lines with compression fittings, cast iron and galvanized steel distribution piping, a blue expansion tank for pressure regulation, and Rinnai tankless water heaters mounted on the upper wall. A flow meter was positioned centrally within the manifold arrangement, with multiple ball valves and gate valves controlling water flow throughout.
Significant oxidation and corrosion were visible on the ferrous piping components, with mineral deposits accumulated on copper lines. The wet collection pan and damp surfaces indicated active water exposure and system stress. Our technician performed a thorough system flush and pressure test to isolate the leak source and assess overall system integrity.
The work revealed that partial replacement had already been completed on certain copper sections, which contrasted sharply with the aged piping elsewhere. The newly installed compression fittings performed well under test conditions. After flushing sediment and debris from the system and confirming pressure stability, the leak was contained and the system returned to normal operation.
The customer now has a documented baseline of system condition and recommendations for monitoring the remaining galvanized and cast iron components, which continue to show corrosion typical of older installations. Regular inspection of the expansion tank and valve assemblies will help prevent future leaks.
