Clogged Drain in Los Angeles
On June 3, 2026, our plumber arrived at a Los Angeles home to address a clogged kitchen drain. The sink in question—a double-bowl undermount stainless steel fixture with dual drain openings—was backing up and draining slowly. The setup included a brass P-trap and tailpiece assembly, an InSinkErator garbage disposal unit, and black flexible supply lines connected via brass shut-off valves.
Inspection revealed mineral buildup and sediment accumulation in the sink bowls, along with age-related patina on the brass components. The white PVC drain line (1.5″ schedule 40) was confirmed functional but required cleaning. Our technician deployed a motorized auger/snake to break through the obstruction, with containment sheeting positioned to manage water discharge during the service.
The drain cleaning proved effective. Active engagement with the auger dislodged debris from the disposal drain and the line beyond, restoring proper flow through the P-trap and into the main drain system. The fixture and all components were left in working order.
For ongoing kitchen drain health, we recommend periodic drain cleaning in Los Angeles to prevent future buildup, especially in homes with older brass fittings and established mineral deposits. Regular maintenance helps avoid emergency backups and extends the life of disposal units and drain lines.
