Clogged Drain in Reseda
During a service call in Reseda on May 15, 2026, our team investigated a reported clogged drain and discovered the root cause: a brass P-trap assembly showing significant corrosion damage. The trap exhibited heavy green and blue verdigris buildup—a telltale sign of oxidation in the brass/bronze fitting. This corrosion had compromised the seal, causing both the clog and an active leak.
The P-trap is a critical component in any drain system, responsible for holding standing water that blocks sewer gases from entering the home. When corrosion weakens the joint, water escapes and drainage backs up. Our technician assessed the extent of the damage and determined that the corroded assembly required replacement rather than repair alone.
We removed the failing brass P-trap and installed a new, code-compliant assembly to restore proper drainage and eliminate the leak. The new trap was secured with appropriate fittings and tested to confirm a watertight seal. The drain now flows freely, and the leak has stopped.
This job is a good reminder that older brass and bronze drain components, while durable, are vulnerable to verdigris corrosion over time—especially in areas with high mineral content in the water supply. If you notice green or blue discoloration on under-sink fittings or experience unexplained leaks, professional inspection is recommended.
