Why is My Water Not Hot

There are few situations more frustrating than stepping into your shower expecting hot water and finding it icy cold instead. In this blog post, we’re discussing a few reasons your water heater is not actually producing hot water.

The first thing you should always do when you notice your unit isn’t producing hot water is to check the thermostat. This may seem simple or too easy, but it’s easy for people to accidentally mess with the controls while rummaging through the garage, closet or wherever your water heater is located.

When was the last time you flushed out your hot water heater? If it’s been over a year, then this could be the reason you have no hot water in your home. Most homes in the Los Angeles area have hard water running through their homes. Hard water refers to the mineral content in the water, and these minerals sink to the bottom of your water heater tank and can lead to corrosion, premature breakdowns, and a lack of hot water. Most homeowners should be able to flush their water heaters out on their own, but if you need any assistance, don’t hesitate to contact our experts at EZ Plumbing!

Power Supply

Whether you have a gas or an electric water heater, there is something that provides power to your unit, which is what controls whether the water is heated or not. For a gas-powered water heater, check the see if the pilot light is out. If it’s out, this means there’s nothing heating the water in your tank. If you have an electric unit, check the circuit breaker to make sure the water heater’s circuit breaker hasn’t tripped. If it is tripped, then there is no power going to your water heater.
